WHY BECOME A MEMBER OF SOCIAL DEMOCRATS HARRIS COUNTY?
The Democratic Party has been described as a party of groups or coalitions. And admittedly, Corporate America has also found its unfortunate place from within. In 2020, the Democratic Party successfully worked together and elected Joe Biden as President, as well as captured majorities in both the House and Senate. In 2024, those groups failed to work together for various reasons.
In order to help provide a framework of agreement across groups within the Democratic Party, Social Democrats Harris County hopes to stay on point in messaging by creating a political formation through which broad social democratic policy and ideas can be articulated and achieved, advancing our pillars that democracy is prime, science is our guide during national crises, (for example, COVID and the current climate crisis), and the creation of social programs that benefit and favor the working and middle classes, and through this, we can achieve the broad goals of a more humane and egalitarian society. Ultimately, we hope to establish the dignity and self-worth of every individual member of our society, independent of one's age, race, creed, gender identity and economic class. If you agree with our above statements, then you too, are a social democrat.
By joining our cause, you help make such a political formation possible.
To join us as a full fledged member, all you have to do is 1) "subscribe" on our Website, and within a 12 month period, make at least three (3) appearances at either a Social Democrats Harris County event or to a Democratic Party sponsored event, either in person or on ZOOM, and 3) provide your acknowledgment that you consider yourself a member of Social Democrats Harris County, after which, your membership is good for a full two years from that point onward. Your two year membership will entitle you to the full rights within our SDHC organization such as deciding/voting how our group conducts business, deciding/voting on resolutions and officers, serving as an officer or on our steering committee, and playing your role as a proud member of a local social democratic club! Membership is subject to our standards for behavior, and any such violation(s) will require that said membership be revoked by a majority vote of our steering committee.

To qualify as a General Member, an individual must,
subscribe via the C website.

within a consecutive 12-month period:

attend at least three (3) elves a member of

Upon satisfaction of these requirements, membership shall be valid for a period of two (2) years. General Members shall be entitled to vote, propose resolutions, and serve as officers or Steering Committee members.

In exchange for the services provided by the Members only, they are hereby individually deemed automatic general members presently and are exempt from any future requirements for General Membership as set forth in Art. I (3) above.

Any general member may propose any AMENDMENT OR CHANGES to the By-laws and have the matter submitted for approval to the general membership with a simple majority of votes cast.

General Members may be removed/expelled as members by a majority vote of the Steering Committee for conduct that materially disrupts activities or is reasonably determined to .

Members can be expelled if:

They are found to be in substantial disagreement with the principles or policies of the organization or
-
if they consistently engage in undemocratic, disruptive behavior; or
-
if they are under the discipline of any self-defined democratic centralist organization.

Members facing expulsion must receive written notice of charges against them via email and must be given the opportunity to be heard before the Steering Committee,within a reasonable time, or a subcommittee thereof, appointed for the purpose of considering expulsion.Upon receiving notice of the expulsion, the member’s voting rights shall be suspended pending the results of the hearing.

Removal/Expulsion requires a simple majority vote of the Steering Committee.
